News: 2 dead in crash involving suspected drunk driver in Indianapolis

INDIANAPOLIS, IN – Indianapolis police said a suspected drunk driver was involved in a deadly accident that occurred Sunday night, reports WTHR.

Police officers responded to the scene in the vicinity of East Southport Road and South Meridian Street on the city’s south side shortly before 9:45 p.m.

According to investigators, the driver of an Acura sedan was going at high speed while headed south on Meridian Street and failed to stop at a red light.  The Acura crashed into the side of a Hyundai sedan that was making a turn from Southport Road onto Meridian Street.  The driver of the Acura and a passenger in the Hyundai were transported to area hospitals, where they were pronounced dead.  The driver of the Hyundai was hospitalized in critical condition.  The names of the victims were not released.

The driver of the Acura was suspected to have been driving while intoxicated, said investigators with the Indianapolis Police Department.
