INDIANAPOLIS, IN – A man alleged to have been driving under the influence when he struck the car of a state trooper in Indianapolis is now under arrest, WXIN reports.
45-year-old Tony Staker was charged with operating a vehicle while intoxicated in connection with the incident that occurred on Interstate 465 early Sunday morning.
Eight vehicles had been involved in a previous crash on I-465 south at about 3:40 a.m. An off-duty Indiana State Police trooper had been called to the scene to help with the investigation.
The trooper, Kendra Gonzalez, parked her Dodge Charger state police vehicle at the scene with her emergency lights activated. At that point, police said Staker was driving a Ford Fusion and struck the Charger.
Trooper Gonzalez, who had been standing outside her vehicle, was not injured in the crash. Staker was arrested and taken to jail after having a blood draw done at an area hospital.
