News: Suspected drunk driver involved in Ripley County accident that left 7 injured

RIPLEY COUNTY, IN – Seven people were hospitalized following a crash in Ripley County caused by an alleged drunk driver, WTHR reports.

Authorities said 25-year-old Justin Palmer of Milan was driving an SUV just before 10 p.m. Saturday night when he entered the path of a truck in the area of State Road 48 and State Road 129.  The truck hit the SUV on the driver’s side and then overturned.

A passenger in the truck, 35-year-old Megan Hountz of Milan, was trapped in the wreckage before being flown to a hospital with serious injuries.  The truck driver, 36-year-old James Ratliff of Milan, was hospitalized with injuries that were not life-threatening. Four juveniles in the truck were also taken to a hospital with undisclosed injuries.

Palmer sustained injuries that were not life-threatening. Police said he showed signs of being intoxicated and was subsequently arrested on several charges, including operating while intoxicated causing serious bodily injury and operating while being a habitual traffic violator.
