Pedestrian dead after being struck by 2 vehicles in Indianapolis

INDIANAPOLIS, IN – Indianapolis police said a pedestrian was fatally struck by two vehicles on Monday evening.

WTHR reports the incident occurred in the area of State Road 37 and Belmont Avenue on the city’s southwest side, where officers were dispatched to the scene just before 7 p.m.

An investigation indicated that the victim was struck by a Ford SUV going south on State Road 37, then was hit again by another southbound Ford SUV.  The pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene.

Both drivers stopped at the scene following the incident and were reported to be cooperating with investigators.  They were also taken to the hospital for a blood draw, but police said neither driver showed signs of impairment.

Indianapolis police said the area where the crash happened is under construction and dangerous for any pedestrians trying to cross the roadway, with no streetlights, no pedestrian crosswalks, and concrete barriers separating travel lanes.
